Wheelchair Basketball Society Bologna

Sport is a citizen's right and as such should be accessible to all.

"The person in a tracksuit is a player, an athlete, not a disabled, wheelchair ol'ausilio used in the chosen discipline is not a discriminating factor due to handicap, but a proper element of the sport. In the gym we will never see the disabled in wheelchairs, but the athletes who play wheelchair basketball. "

Claudia Cantu

The movement of the wheelchair basketball was born in Bologna thanks to the EX-CSH (Coordination Sport Handicap) has always been committed to promoting sports for all, organizing mini-course in a wheelchair.
The courses conducted are part of a wider project which involved the creation of more teams in the region in order to create a competitive arena for amateur-regional dimension.
The results of this project are represented by teams formed in Emilia Romagna, which represent the first experience at the national level and these formed the backbone of the first experimental mini-basketball league organized by CIP (Italian Paralympic Committee) in 2004/05.
At national level the development of wheelchair basketball has produced some really recognized at international level, whereas did not induce a similar development of mini-teams.
Emilia Romagna has managed to reverse this situation broke new ground in this motion being represented by three teams of five in the first championship played. The team of Bologna, youngest of five, came to the fore in the first national championship.
The team consists of is the result of a long collaboration between the CSH and the Vicious ATC "Joseph Dozza" sports club of the 2004/05 season the club has received from its activities also wheelchair basketball by entering the sport in full view of his sports.
After two years of preparation, training through the efforts of the Circle "Joseph Dozza" ATC Bologna, mini-basketball team was able to grow and face the 2005-06 national championship qualifying since its debut in the final four disputatesi Scandicci (Florence) and participate in the national championships after 2006/07, 2007/08 (on this occasion the team has qualified to the final four disputatesi in Rome) and 2008/09.
In 2009/10 the team mini-league has scored his best ever result coming third in the national finals held in Vicenza.
The adult team for the first time in 2007/08 was in the national championship series B by closing the season with 6 ˚ place in the standings.
Adults have always participated in the next championships.
For a reality as Bologna to take part in a Serie B and develop a project for the very young to introduce them to sport is a very heavy responsibility and burden of responsibility and commitment. Right now it is essential to widen the number of participants with appropriate promotional activities and actions that address more easily participate in the activity. E 'need around this project and collect the maximum energy available for each sport can be brought and then cultivated by all, so that our region is filled with this opportunity and would enable a significant number of young people achieved even by a dream that has the outline of a basketball.
